Actor Kodi Smit-McPhee has been cast in the role of young Nightcrawler in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse movie. The news came from director Bryan Singer's Instagram.
Nightcrawler aka Kurt Wagner is a fuzzy blue X-Man with teleporting powers. He's a German acrobat known for being a devout Catholic, which is in stark contrast to his demon-like appearance. Smit-McPhee certainly has a uniquely shaped face, one that will no doubt help play into his demonic appearance with the aide of makeup.
Smit-McPhee is most famous for his roles in Paranorman and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. His Nightcrawler joins the cast of other young X-Men Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm, played by Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp, respectively.
Nightcrawler previously appeared in X2: X-Men United, where he was played by actor Alan Cumming.
X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
