E3 for Me

As I write this, Bethesda will kick off E3 2015 in around 8 hours. Teams from Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft and EA will be putting the finishing touches to their own shows that will of cost thousands of dollars. I didn't miss Nintendo, cause they will be on some editing booth putting the finishing touches to their video. Then why, you ask do they do all this? Well the answer is really simple, its one of the few times a year the eyes of the World are on the games industry.

I have followed E3 for many years but my favourite year was real memorable to me,
Xbox 2009 E3, the year of Project Natal.
They were a number of years into the Xbox 360, it was selling well and they came out and nailed it with the games first, Alan Wake, Forza 3, Halo ODST and Halo Reach, Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell conviction the games alone would of made a great year, but it was the surprise the pulled out near the end that got everyone talking, Project Natal. The Hands free motion controller that was to become Kinect. The demos and concept video seemed taken from a sci-fi movie, surely it couldn't work this good, we all thought.

Which leads me to my worst E3. Surprisingly the same year 2009. Yes bizarrely its the same year. Let me explain!
Thanks to Kinect for the next few years we were treated to fake family's giving out ridiculous dialogue, all while pretending to have a great time with the motion controller that had too much lag to make it fun. This was the year we were told " Ever wonder what the bottom of an Avatar shoe looks like, well BAM", then what we saw was a contorted Avatar standing in an impossible position, with its arms wrapped around his head. How much money and hours had they spent on this and this was the tragic result.

What do I want from this years show? Well hopefully a continuation of last years , but with a bit of holo lens and Oculus thrown in. Tomb Raider to start Halo 5 to round up with plenty to chew on in the middle. Some time these shows can be on in the middle if the night but as my wife keeps telling everyone that will listen, James struggled to get up in the middle of the night to feed the baby, yet he gets up effortlessly at 2.30AM to watch a games show. She might have a point!
